LUCKNOW: There is relief for those struggling to get a transcript or a migration certificate from Uttar Pradesh's APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University Giving with two point of sale (POS) units at its student welfare office for plastic money users. This is primarily beneficial for students who are visiting university to get their migration certificate, transcript, provisional degrees and other documents.
AKTU offiicials said, post demonetisation, students who come from far-flung areas were facing trouble to get their documents with limited cash in hand.
"Students often had to return empty-handed with no provision other than cash payment but with POS units, students can pay using debit or credit card,'' said varsitys vice-chancellor Vinay Kumar Pathak, adding that he was trying to get the POS units for the past 10 days but there was shortage of machines in the nationalised bank. Finally, two POS units were installed on Saturday.
The step taken to promote digital transactions aimed at shortening the queues at the bank and the cash counters in the university. Post demonetisation, the cash crunch along with government's push for a cashless economy put universities across the country on a mission to digitalise all kinds of payments.
"Wueues are long and with limited cash, it was difficult for us to collect documents,'' said a student who had come all the way from Bengaluru to collect his transcript.
Two days back, Lucknow's Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University took the cashless route by announcing all payments, from January 1, only through e-transactions. The university has also made it mandatorily for all students to have debit or credit card to make payments of any kind, from late library submission fee to mess charges. In addition, BBAU will also issue debit cards up to the limit of Rs 10,000 to deans of all faculties, departmental heads and other administrative officers for purposes of permanent imprest, hospitality, etc.
